Attacked on the road to Madinah

Abu-l 'As had been released from captivity at Badr on condition that Zaynab go to her father in Madinah. He arranged for her to leave Makkah, escorted by a member of his own family.
Word of the departure reached men in Makkah who were still hostile to the Muslims, and a party set out after the group and overtook them on the road, not far outside the city.
What followed was frightening rather than measured: the escort was threatened, and Zaynab, pregnant by some accounts, was startled into falling from her mount. She was hurt by the fall.
The confrontation did not end in bloodshed. Voices in Makkah who preferred the matter handled quietly intervened, and Zaynab's party was allowed to go on — though not, this time, in the open.
She completed the journey and reached her father in Madinah. She had been sent out once already, and injured for it, before she ever set foot in the city she was migrating to.
