SahabaMateCompanions of the Prophet ﷺ

Those Who Opposed Him First

مَنْ أَسْلَمَ بَعْدَ عَدَاوَة

Companions who fought, mocked or plotted against the Prophet ﷺ before accepting Islam.

A large number of the Companions did not begin as followers. Some commanded armies against the Muslims, some wrote poetry attacking the Prophet ﷺ for years, one set out to kill him. What they have in common is that the community they had opposed received them afterwards without holding it over them — and several went on to hold positions of real trust. This group exists because a history told only from the inside gives a false picture of how the period actually went.

Many Companions belong to this group. SahabaMate currently holds entries for a small number of them.
